DCS is a digital signal and thus requires unfiltered audio directly from the receiver's discriminator - It is not possible to decode DCS from the audio/speaker output on most scanners! Some scanners can be modified (at your own risk, of course). Professional communications monitors or radio service monitors often provide a demodulator or discriminator output.

For more information, type "discriminator tap" into your favorite search engine.
